The Sizewell C nuclear power project, based in Suffolk, has awarded £2.5bn in contracts to nearly 300 UK suppliers within its first year of construction. With a commitment to delivering 70% of construction value to UK companies, the project has also generated over £100m in local contracts and aims to inject £4.4bn into the East of England during the construction phase.
Sizewell C’s first year saw major progress, including securing a Nuclear Site Licence, completing key infrastructure projects, and advancing manufacturing efforts - 20% of equipment production is already underway. By year-end, the workforce will grow to 2,000, including twice as many apprentices.
Joint Managing Directors Julia Pyke and Nigel Cann emphasised the project's benefits
Sizewell C is on track to deliver clean energy for six million homes, create thousands of high-quality jobs, and strengthen Britain’s energy security
The project activated a £250m local benefits package, funding environmental initiatives, tourism support, and housing development. Additionally, the £23m Sizewell C Community Fund has already distributed over £300,000 to local charities, with more grants forthcoming.
Ipswich-based Jackson Civil Engineering secured a £19m contract for roadworks, highlighting opportunities for regional businesses. Combat2Coffee, a local social enterprise, was also awarded a site coffee shop licence.
With 1,500 apprenticeships planned, Sizewell C has welcomed over 60 apprentices so far and held jobs fairs to attract local talent. The project also hosted 14 community forums, ensuring residents stay informed and involved.
As Sizewell C enters its second year, it continues to deliver on its promises of economic growth, local benefits, and clean energy for the UK.
