60% of Tech and Engineering businesses anticipate hiring technical staff with the right skills as their biggest challenge over the next three years, as per a report by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
As reported on PoliticsHome.com, the report also warns that 53% see a shortage of engineers as a threat to their overall business, with only 20% expecting the supply of engineers to improve over the next 3-5 years.
And while 81% agree that there is a responsibility by businesses to encourage the next generation to go from education into training, only 23% are going to schools or career fairs to inspire students to do so.
At Millbank we talk to clients regularly about the growing need for engineering staff and new skills as industries evolve.
We know the importance of encouraging future generations to choose a career in engineering by taking on STEM subjects at school and higher education. Not only is this good to the industry, but engineering is also a fantastic career choice for young people to aspire to.
That’s why we are involved in Engineering Your Future, a series of events aimed at showing students the possibilities and opportunities studying STEM subject can open for them. As a recruitment agency working with many engineering firms in the area, we are uniquely positioned to advise and guide students interested in working for businesses such as these.
The next Engineering Your Future event is on Thursday 21st November at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington. Click here for more details.
