In an exciting development for the water utilities sector, Thames Water, the UK's largest water and wastewater services company, has appointed Jacobs and Mott MacDonald as program partners to support its Strategic Resource Options (SRO) program. This collaboration, structured under an eight-year professional services framework agreement, will see the joint venture providing program management and controls capabilities.
The SRO framework is a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing water infrastructure to ensure an additional gigaliter of water per day for customers across London and the Thames Valley. Thames Water's foresight includes the London Water Recycling project, South East Strategic Reservoir Option, Severn to Thames Transfer, Thames to Affinity Transfer, and Thames to Southern Transfer projects, addressing the anticipated demand over the next 50 years.
Jacobs Senior Vice President Kate Kenny stated,
Jacobs and Mott MacDonald bring major program management capability across the entire water cycle and project lifecycle to support these complex projects. As program partner, we're focused on helping Thames Water deliver critical, integrated water management and reuse solutions that protect communities and the environment for the long term.
Jacobs, known for its global leadership in water reuse, has been integral to the early stages of the London Recycling (Reuse) Program. This initiative continues Jacobs' tradition of pioneering innovative water treatment methods and promoting public acceptance of recycled water. Both Jacobs and Mott MacDonald have been key in the development of the SROs, also serving as the technical partner on the SRO framework.
Richard Risdon, Mott MacDonald's Managing Director for the UK & Europe, commented
Our appointment to this framework builds on a successful partnership with Jacobs developed during the early stages of the SROs. Together, we have an impressive track record of delivering industry-leading services to the water sector. We're delighted to continue providing support to Thames Water and working together to help shape the future of the UK's water security.
With over 50 years of experience in managing complex infrastructure and transformation programs globally, Jacobs brings its expertise, processes, and digital solutions to ensure successful program delivery. Consistently ranked № 1 on Engineering News-Record (ENR)'s Top 50 Program Management Firms for three consecutive years, Jacobs has supported major initiatives such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel and Anglian Water's Strategic Pipeline Alliance in the UK, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) Grand Central Madison program in New York, and New Zealand's Central Interceptor, a significant wastewater tunnel.
By joining forces with Mott MacDonald, Jacobs aims to leverage their collective expertise to drive forward the SRO program, ensuring a sustainable water future for London and the Thames Valley.
