UPDATE: INEOS Automotive have confirmed that the Grenadier 4x4 will be built in Bridgend, Wales. Click here to read more

A new car manufacturing plant in Wales will build parts for the INEOS Automotive Projekt Grenadier, it has been reported by The Telegraph.

The full details of where the rugged 4x4 will be produced is expected this week via an announcement from INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with production anticipated to be split between Wales and the US.

The news follows the unveiling of the new Defender by Jaguar Land Rover, the original model of which was the inspiration for the Grenadier.

This comes as Ford's plant in Bridgend is set to close in 2020. INEOS had previously been in talks with Ford regarding the future of the factory and its workers in relation to Projekt Grenadier.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s vision for the car is to revive the spirit of the original Defender, which was iconic for its durability and ease of maintenance. How will the Grenadier compare to Land Rover’s own revival of the Defender?
