Significant improvements to the rail network around Edinburgh Waverley Station in Scotland have been approved by the Scottish Transport Secretary.
The £15m will be spent on the Edinburgh Waverley Western Approaches (EWWA) project in one of three proposed infrastructure options. The goal is to support one of Scotland’s key rail links and in turn grow business and economical prosperity throughout the region.
The three proposed options are a new Almond chord with flat junctions at both Winchburgh and Almond; the Almond chord with a flat Winchburgh Junction and a grade separated Almond Junction; and the Almond chord with grade separated junctions at both Winchburgh and Almond.
There will be detailed modelling on the chosen infrastructure option to ensure performance benefits are maximised.
It's a fantastic boost to the rail industry in Scotland which will have wider positive implications for passengers and businesses.
