Nine major operators of EV charging points in the UK have agreed to open up their networks to each other’s customers in a roaming agreement expected to launch in 2020.
The agreement will allow for E drivers to charge their cars at any of the operators’ charge points without having to sign up to each individual service, which it is hoped will simplify the process of EV charging on the go and increase adoption of EVs.
The operators signed up to date are Allego, EVBox, NewMotion, Chargemap, ChargePoint, Charge4Europe, Engenie, Franklin Energy, and Travelcard.
With a single subscription to one of the operators’ services, consumers will be able to not only charge from any included charge point, but also see information on which points are available and what it costs to use them.
The scheme mirrors a similar arrangement between operators in continental Europe which has been credited with boosting EV adoption.
We work with car manufacturers and the supply chain, both of which are increasingly demanding more skills related to electric powertrains, batteries, charging points and technology.
