The Government has promised an additional £2.5m fund to install over 1,000 new EV charging points across the UK, it has been announced.
EV sales are on the rise, with 158% more being sold compared to this time last year. The £2.5m investment will support this growth through a scheme of installing on-street charge points for electric vehicles.
The wider “Road to Zero” government strategy has seen £1.5bn invested to push for an all-electric future for cars sold in the UK. Other initiatives include the plan to fit all new homes with an electric car charging point, announced earlier this year.
Transport secretary, Grant Shapps, said: “It’s vital that electric vehicle drivers feel confident about the availability of charge points near their homes, and that charging an electric car is seen as easy as plugging in a smartphone.”
We work with car manufacturers and the supply chain, both of which are increasingly demanding more skills related to electric powertrains, batteries, charging points and technology.
