EET Fuels, formerly known as Essar Oil UK, proudly announces the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Stanlow Refinery, a cornerstone of Britain's energy landscape.
Established in 1924, Stanlow has stood as a beacon of excellence in refining, evolving from its origins in bitumen production to become one of Europe's most advanced refineries. For a century, Stanlow has supplied essential products and transportation fuels, driving economic growth not only in the North West but across the entire UK.
The Centenary celebration, spanning several months, will honour Stanlow's remarkable legacy through a series of events and initiatives. These activities will underscore Stanlow's profound impact on the Cheshire community, the North West region, and the nation at large. It's an opportunity to express gratitude to the communities that have been integral to Stanlow's journey while reaffirming EET Fuels' commitment to their support in the years ahead.
Prashant Ruia, Chairman of EET, reflects on Stanlow's century-long contribution:
For a century, Stanlow has kept Britain moving. We are immensely proud of the refinery’s heritage and its unwavering commitment to supplying high-quality products and fuels safely and reliably. We want to recognise the thousands of colleagues who made this happen.
Looking forward, EET Fuels is embarking on a transformative journey to position Stanlow at the forefront of the UK's low-carbon future. With ambitious plans to become the world's first low-carbon refinery and a leading producer of hydrogen, Stanlow is poised to shape the industrial landscape for the next century and beyond.
A brief historical overview reveals Stanlow's evolution under various ownerships, culminating in Essar Group's acquisition in 2011. Since then, Essar has fostered strong community ties and invested over $1 billion in improvement initiatives, solidifying Stanlow's status as a national asset.
Today, Stanlow remains a vital contributor to the UK's energy security, producing over 16% of the nation's road transport fuels annually. Employing over 700 individuals directly and supporting an additional 700 jobs in the local supply chain, Stanlow is not just a refinery but a hub of economic opportunity.
Looking ahead, Essar Energy Transition (EET) is driving Stanlow's evolution into a leading energy transition hub. With a $3 billion investment plan over the next five years, EET aims to pioneer low-carbon energy projects, propelling Stanlow into a new era of sustainability and innovation.
Deepak Maheshwari, CEO of EET Fuels, affirms this commitment:
Stanlow has continuously adapted and innovated over the past century to meet changing social, environmental, and market needs and expectations. We are committed to securing the refinery’s continued success for generations to come.
As Stanlow embraces its next century, it not only symbolises a century of achievement but also embodies a vision for a greener, more sustainable future. With EET Fuels at the helm, Stanlow will continue to lead the charge in decarbonisation, setting a precedent for refineries worldwide.
