The Submarine Availability Support Hub (SASH) has officially opened in Bristol, reinforcing the UK’s national security and creating 100 new jobs. Opened by Defence Minister Maria Eagle, this Babcock-led facility will improve submarine availability, enhance engineering expertise, and strengthen Britain’s nuclear deterrent.
Aligned with the Government’s Plan for Change, SASH will drive faster decision-making and innovation. The launch follows the Defence Industrial Strategy, ensuring defence remains an economic growth engine.
Maria Eagle MP, Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry, stated:
Opening the Babcock Submarine Availability Support Hub in Bristol highlights our commitment to making defence an engine for growth. This facility strengthens the UK’s nuclear deterrent and supports our prosperity.
The Defence Nuclear Enterprise and Babcock will work closely at SASH, using cutting-edge digital tools and engineering expertise to enhance submarine availability.
Sir Chris Gardner KBE, CEO of the Submarine Delivery Agency, said: “This innovative Babcock facility supports Royal Navy submarine availability and highlights the Government’s commitment to the UK’s nuclear enterprise.”
SASH strengthens the UK’s defence supply chain, already supporting 42,000 jobs and 3,000 businesses. It enhances waterfront operations at Clyde and Devonport, improving maintenance and planning for submarines.
By fostering close collaboration with Babcock, the new Submarine Availability Support Hub represents a key step in defence innovation and economic resilience, securing the UK’s future deterrence capabilities.
