An autonomous driving joint venture has been announced, with Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv each owning a 50 percent stake.
The partnership brings together Hyundai, the South Korean automotive manufacturing giant, and Aptiv, the Ireland-based innovative automotive technology provider, with a total investment of $4 million.
With a target of commercialising autonomous driving, the joint venture aims to bring its first autonomous taxi platform to market in 2022. Their goal is to further develop level 4 and 5 autonomous technologies (high and full automation respectively).
Aptiv has been a leader in the autonomous driving space for several years, having successfully deployed an autonomous taxi service in Las Vegas with more than 70,000 rides delivered to date. They were also the first company to send an autonomous car from coast-to-coast in the United States.
