Amentum has been chosen as the sole program and project management delivery partner for Sizewell C, a new nuclear power station set to enhance the United Kingdom’s energy security.
With global gas prices fluctuating, the importance of a stable and secure energy supply has never been greater. Sizewell C will play a vital role in this effort by providing always-on nuclear electricity.
As Andy White, Senior Vice President of Amentum Energy & Environment International, states:
Sizewell C’s always-on nuclear electricity will boost UK energy security at a time of volatile global gas prices, leading to lower and more predictable energy costs. Our international program management experience and the learning from our work at Hinkley Point C will help to advance a project which is crucial for job creation and economic growth across the country.
Beyond program and project management, Amentum will assist Sizewell C in deploying cutting-edge, digitally aligned project controls, engineering and technical services, and innovative infrastructure solutions. This contract will remain in effect until the station begins electricity generation, creating hundreds of new jobs in the UK.
Nigel Cann, Joint Managing Director of Sizewell C, highlights the significance of Amentum’s role:
“Amentum’s global program management capabilities and international nuclear new build experience will help us deliver the game-changing benefits and cost savings of replicating Hinkley Point C’s reactor design, while supporting our commitment to creating jobs and skills in the UK and maintaining the national capability essential for the nuclear renaissance.”
Amentum’s leadership in nuclear new build projects, both in the UK and globally, positions the company at the forefront of the industry. Mark Whitney, President of Amentum Energy & Environment, underscores this:
“Our nuclear new build program management experience in the UK and elsewhere, together with our deep technical advisory capability, means that Amentum is well positioned at the forefront of the nuclear renaissance.”
Sizewell C Ltd, which is 76% owned by the UK Government, has received a significant investment of £2.5 billion ($3.2 billion). Located on the East Suffolk coast in England, the station will feature two 1.6-gigawatt EPR reactors. These reactors will have the capacity to power six million homes while preventing approximately nine million metric tons of carbon emissions annually. The project is expected to support 70,000 jobs and involve over 3,000 companies within the UK’s nuclear and construction supply chains.
As the UK advances towards a cleaner and more resilient energy future, Amentum’s role in Sizewell C underscores the company’s expertise in nuclear energy program management. With a proven track record in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects, Amentum is set to contribute to the success of this transformative energy initiative.
